Sustainable Stadium & Event Management
This module explores all current and future issues around sustainable sports management. The course uses the concept of sustainability to explore key contemporary issues such as: Types of sports venues, construction and refurbishment, venue design, event delivery, stakeholder management, venue marketing, and venue management. Each topic will include a balance between the establishment of a theoretical base, and the investigation of practical case-studies. The sessions are varied, and the course mixes workshop units and debates in a thought-provoking format. At the culmination, students will gain an understanding of the intricacies of developing, marketing and operating sports venues; and a greater knowledge of the role of sustainability in the management and governance of UK and International sport business.
Strategic Sport Marketing
The role of marketing in sport continues to develop with major sports brands such as Real Madrid, Dallas Cowboys, and New York Yankees valued at £2billion according to a valuation in Forbes Business Magazine. This represents significant growth in the last decade, and sponsorship records are frequently broken as more organisations look to align themselves with, and benefit commercially from an association with sporting brands. Television deals have reached record highs in most sports and merchandising revenue continues to grow at major sporting events and in sports clubs. It is therefore critical that sports managers appreciate the mechanics of marketing and appreciate why it is important to know how to develop effective marketing plans and then evaluate their impact. All of these factors are further complicated by the rapid growth in social media techniques, where sports brands that do not fully integrate run the risk of falling behind their competitors.
Event Finance & Budgeting
This module investigates all key issues in regard to event finance and budgeting. It explores how financial and management accounting information can be used for competitive advantage, and it provides you with a strong grounding in the financial discipline in relation to event delivery. The module introduces contemporary issues in the staging of events, and arms students with the tools to measure their financial success. It will introduce various concepts of theory and practice, discuss contemporary trends and challenges, and enable students to better meet goals in this challenging industry.
Principles in the Staging & Evaluation of Events

The unique nature of events requires relevant processes to be adapted and managed and this module places students at the cutting edge in event management. It integrates various concepts of theory and practice, contemporary trends and challenges, enabling students to better understand the staging and delivery of events.
Event Impacts & Legacy
With the continuous rapid growth of the event industry and the increase in their cost there has been a stronger emphasis placed on measuring event impacts and evaluating legacies. The London 2012 Olympics have set a significant milestone in Olympic Games history by building legacy plans from as early as the bidding stage. However, debates on the success of event legacy are on-going, and they include discussion as to whether sport events can provide legacy at all, how impacts are measured, and discussions of the balance between negative and positive legacies.
This module will examine and analyse theory in relation to event impacts and legacies. It will introduce various concepts of theory and practice, in amongst a focus on practical event delivery.
International Event Perspectives
This module explores the range of perspectives and approaches in the field of International Event Management. It will introduce various concepts of theory and practice, discuss contemporary trends and challenges, and it will compare and contrast a range of international events using case study, debate and formal lecture content.
